Stag Safety Core Training
This CORE Orientation course is a comprehensive safety program designed to equip workers with the knowledge and skills to identify, mitigate, and respond to hazards in the workplace. It covers foundational safety policies, specific hazard management, emergency preparedness, and the safe operation of specialized equipment.

Summary of the Course

The course is structured into four main sections:
  • Section 1: Foundational Safety Principles lays the groundwork for a safe work environment. It emphasizes the importance of clear communication, adherence to a drug-free workplace policy, and recognizing and preventing workplace violence. It establishes core safety processes like hazard identification, the hierarchy of controls, Behavior-Based Safety (BBS), and the mandatory use of Job Safety Analyses (JSAs) and work permits for high-risk jobs.
  • Section 2: Hazard Communication & Environmental Health delves into specific workplace hazards. It empowers employees with Stop Work Authority (SWA) and details the requirements for various types of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE). This section provides extensive training on understanding chemical dangers through the Hazard Communication Standard (HCS), including how to read Safety Data Sheets (SDSs). It also covers crucial topics like environmental protection, emergency response to spills (HAZWOPER), and recognizing biological and physical hazards such as H2S gas and adverse weather.
  • Section 3: Emergency Preparedness & Energy Control focuses on procedures for emergencies and managing hazardous energy. It provides practical guidance on back injury prevention, following Emergency Action Plans (EAPs), and all aspects of fire safety. A critical component is the detailed instruction on Lockout/Tagout (LOTO) procedures to safely de-energize machinery, alongside general electrical safety and the protocols for entering confined spaces.
  • Section 4: Specialized Work & Equipment Safety covers the protocols for high-risk operations and heavy machinery. It includes detailed training on fall protection for any elevated work, the safe use of ladders and scaffolds, and the specific dangers associated with excavation and trenching. The final part of the course ensures workers are competent in the safe operation of forklifts and cranes (including rigging and signals) and concludes with essential motor vehicle safety practices to protect employees both on and off the job site.
